First UK Pavilion launched at Hangzhou CCIE

The 12th Hangzhou Cultural and Creative Industry Expo (CCIE) took place in Hangzhou from 19th to 23rd September 2018. It is the first time the UK pavilion has had a presence at CCIE. At the opening ceremony on 19th September, Tony Clemson, the Deputy Consul General, British Consul General in Shanghai, congratulated the opening of CCIE and the successful launch of the first UK pavilion.

UK Pavilion debut at CCIE with CBBC-selected British brands

The UK pavilion was jointly built by the British Consulate-General in Shanghai and the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC). Through various media platforms, CBBC highly recommended this event to our members and other relevant British companies. Within a month, CBBC received enthusiastic responses from the British government, institutions and business community. CBBC selected about 20 iconic British brands and companies to exhibit within the UK pavilion

Many of the brands represented in the UK pavilion are CBBC members including: Tip Tree, Walkers, Torran, Downland, Noveltea, Tayto REAL Crisps, Kiddyliciou, Tomic and GSM

British products sought after by CCIE attendees

The  UK pavilion swarmed with exhibition attendees and sales of British products were booming. Ever Thames products, including Fulton umbrellas, Corgi socks, Crossing Days perfumes, and Kent combs, had a sale of over RMB 10,000 as a whole on the first day.

Exhibitors at the UK pavilion were extremely satisfied with the event arrangements. Many said, although it was their first time participating in such an exhibition they were surprised by the warm atmosphere, large amount of visitors and their enthusiastic response. Tiptree jam sold out before the exhibition ended which was beyond expectations. Burts and Real Crisps were snapped up by exhibition attendees. Even though the shelves were replenished every day, they were emptied again in less than half a day. Noveltea also repeatedly sold out after restocking and people even took home empty bottles as souvenirs.

Spot potential business opportunities

CBBC also invited potential business partners from Hangzhou, as well as representatives from well-known Hangzhou E-Commerce platforms such as Alibaba and NetEase (Kaola.com), regional distributorsmulti-brand shops to the UK pavilion to discuss business opportunities with British companies.

The UK is one of the first countries in the world to put forward the concept of "creative industry". The British creative industrys contribution to the UK GDP is even higher than that from developed financial service industry. From architecture, music, computer games to films, the innovative, developed and diversified creative industry has become a major pillar of UK industries. Creative businesses accounts for about 6% of the total number of registered companies in the UK. As one of the world's leading creative countries, the UK has led the trend with colourful creativity and exciting innovations.

The launching of the UK pavilion at the Hangzhou CCIE is of great significance to the cooperation and exchange between the UK and Hangzhou and has paved the way for more UK-China cooperation in the creative industry.
